To kick things off, we finally got a new couch yesterday - I'm so excited. Let me set the scene: Joe and I moved into our apartment last February, eager to furnish our space. I fell in love with the aesthetic of this CB2 couch, and immediately ordered it, thinking it would fit up our fourth-floor walkup stairs since it is very similar in size to our current/old couch. Delivery day arrived, and I was foolishly shocked when it wouldn't fit up our very narrow, old stairs... We could have called the couch doctor service, but felt like we'd rather pick something else larger if we were going to have to end up using the couch doctor anyway.
The search resumed for over a year. I really thought we'd never get a new couch. We thought about a modular couch, but many of those are too deep for our narrow-ish living room. We also didn't want to commit to something custom or something that would take 8-12 week to arrive, because then what would we do if we didn't like it? That left us with very few choices...
Fast forward to last week, scrolling through Facebook Marketplace, I stumbled upon a gem: this couch, practically brand-new, only a few months old, and the best part: the seller was offering to cover the cost of the couch doctor service since it was needed to get the couch out of her space. If you're not familiar, the couch doctor is a service that's pretty popular here in NYC due to many narrow entrances, doorways, and stairwells. These guys are professionals who specialize in disassembling and reassembling furniture for tight spaces while maintaining structure and appearance. By the time they're done, you'd never even know they'd taken a chainsaw to your couch! Lol. It was the perfect storm: a fantastic couch, an incredible deal, and the delivery hurdle solved! Yesterday, the couch arrived, perfectly fit, and we're so excited.
By no means is it really my "dream" couch; I would've loved something with a more formal look, or slipcovered, or colorful, but I really can't complain - I'm just happy to have a bigger couch that fits in our apartment, that was a great deal, and that Joe and I can both comfortably lounge on at the same time.
This new couch has me wanting to start from scratch with our entire space, with the exception of our custom coffee table and our rug, both of which I love. I put together the above moodboard, and a roundup of spring pieces for the home that have caught my eye:
What's on your list of spring projects?
