2024 was a good, not great, year of reading for me! I had been on a big reading kick for a few years prior, but in 2024 I just got sucked into some books I wasn't loving, and it really slowed down my reading. I'm trying to get better about stopping books that I'm not enjoying, but why is it SO hard?!
I ultimately read 24 books (ish)... let's do a recap! I've done this same post for the past few years, check them out here:
5 Stars
First Lie Wins - This was my favorite book of the year, I think! It's a thriller but has a bit more of a "plot" than most thrillers, in my opinion. I was unprepared at every turn, and I loved the ending!
A Perfect Vintage - I adored this book and have since recommended it to all of my friends! I even brought it to our book exchange in December. This is just the best summer read; it tells the story of a woman whose job is to work with french families to transform their chateaus into luxury wineries and hotels, and of course, there is some romance and drama with the family throughout the summer!
A Summer Affair - I love anything Elin Hilderbrand, and this book is no different! If you're unfamiliar with Elin's books, she primarily writes stories set on Nantucket in the summer, that aren't super rom/com-y, more twisty beach reads with interesting characters experiencing something a little dramatic. My all-time favorites are The Blue Bistro and The Matchmaker, but I really loved this one as well!
Finding Mrs Ford - This summery mystery set in Watch Hill is equal parts glamorous and suspenseful!
Love and Other Words - Oh this was so precious. This is a classic trope about childhood friends who lost touch and then run into each other as adults just to figure out the real reason behind what broke them apart. So good, lots of tears.
4.5 Stars
The Five-Star Weekend - Another Elin Hilderbrand! Loved it, of course, but I try not to give every single one 5 out of 5 stars, haha.
Local Woman Missing - This was an amazing thriller. Docked half a point because it was almost too scary for me at some points... just a lot of... imagery. But loved the story!

In an attempt to buoy my reading goal progress, I read five short, holiday-themed books. I give them two stars because they were pretty smutty, which I'm not super into, and I wouldn't classify them necessarily as "real" books, to me they're like "mini books. These are just quick, cute, 70ish page reads, part of the "Under the Mistletoe" series: Cruel Winter With You, Merry Ever After, All by My Elf, Merriment and Mayhem, and Only Santas in the Building

Fourth Wing - is this controversial?! It was so dramatic yet somehow boring to me at the same time. I got about 60% through and gave up, lol.
What was the best book you read in 2023?
