Last weekend, Joe and I went on a little weekend getaway upstate to the Hudson Valley and Catskills in New York! This is something I'd wanted to do ever since moving to NYC; the fall foliage is unmatched, and the drive just two hours outside of the city is absolutely lovely. We got so lucky with perfect weather and two lovely days together!
We drove up Thursday after work which worked out well as we didn't hit too much traffic. It was about a 2.5 hour drive from our apartment to Camptown, where we were staying. This property is absolutely darling, and I would highly recommend it! They have a sauna, fire pit, restaurant on site, and you can choose a small motel-like room or cabin to stay in. We opted for the motel room but we definitely want to go back and stay at a cabin since our room was quite small.
the fire pit!
It was so nice to stay somewhere centrally located; Camptown is a 10ish minute drive over the bridge to the town of Hudson, a 30 minute drive to Kaaterskill Falls (we'll get to that!) and close to other towns and spots we explored. It was so cute and reasonably priced, I am so glad we stayed there!
Thursday night we had dinner at Feast & Floret, which is a darling home that has been reimagined into a gorgeous restaurant. The food didn't blow us away, but the ambiance was great.
On Friday morning we woke up early (6:45!) to head out for a hike at Kaaterskill Falls; we'd heard this is one of, if not the, most beautiful hikes in the area and we wanted to get out before the crowds. Oh my gosh, this hike was the highlight of our weekend! We did the path up to Inspiration Point which had unreal views of the foliage - it was everything I'd hoped for and more! The hike itself was definitely hike-y but not too challenging and took roughly two hours total.
We spent the rest of the day exploring more areas upstate. After our hike, we drove out to Saugerties for a coffee at Josie's and some shopping; Saugerties has some very cute boutiquey little shops! For lunch, we drove back to Hudson and had lunch at Governor's Tavern, which is your classic divey spot with great food! We shopped around Hudson for the rest of the afternoon before heading back to our hotel.
Friday night we went out to dinner at Kitty's, which we absolutely loved! The pea shoot dumplings are life-changing. The vibes are cute, it's almost like an elevated diner experience. We loved it!
Saturday we didn't have many plans, so we started with a coffee at Hartland which is just up the road from Camptown. We ended up driving around for a while and exploring which was so lovely since all of the foliage was at it's peak.
We popped into Greig Farm Market for the *best* apple cider donuts ever, and then drove a few minutes over to Rose Hill Farm for apple picking! We ended up having such a lovely, spontaneous fall morning.
After apple picking, we drove to a little town called Red Hook where we had lunch at the Corner Counter. Our lunch was great, but the town really didn't have much else, so I'm not sure if it's worth a visit unless you're nearby.
We ended up exploring a few breweries in the afternoon, my favorite of which was Left Bank Ciders in Woodstock! We played games and hung over before picking up barbecue in Woodstock for dinner. We ended up eating dinner back at our hotel by the fire pit, which was so relaxing and lovely!
Sunday morning before heading back to the city, we grabbed coffees at Hudson Roastery and pastries at Mel the Bakery - both spots are a must visit if you're in Hudson!
hudson roastery had such delicious fall lattes!
Overall, it was the perfect weekend getaway. I really couldn't get over the foliage! It was incredible! I'd highly recommend taking a trip upstate if you have the opportunity in the fall seasons to come, and I would suggest renting a car if you can - it made all the difference.
