I have been working for just over a month now, and I have to say it's going far better than I expected. I have nailed down a routine that really works for me when it comes to fitting in time to blog, hang out with friends, and work out. Not every day do I feel as motivated as others, but for the most part, it's going well.
What I do
Let's start with a bit of background on what I do! I started my full-time, post-grad job on Sep 14 and I am a User Experience / Integrated Experience consultant for a very large company. For the sake of privacy, I won't share the company name. I also want to make a little disclaimer that anything shared on this blog is not affiliated with my company and is my own, individual thoughts/opinions/values, etc.
If you aren't familiar with how consulting works or what my title means, basically I work for a company that gets hired by another company to help them with "projects." A project means coming up with a solution for a problem that the other company, or client, is experiencing. A project can last from a few months to a couple of years and you have to apply internally to be selected for a project. Because of my company's nature, these projects usually have something to do with solving a problem related to digital experience or technology using artificial intelligence, the cloud, or any other modern technology.
I plan to share a more thorough update on what I actually do in a few weeks or months once I am on my first official project. Right now, I have completed my training and I am helping out with a workshop for a project and therefore don't have an official/complete grasp of my job or responsibilities yet.
My Daily Routine
I'm going to share my daily routine, but please keep in mind that this is just what works for me. I am a very lax person-- if I don't want to do something, I won't do it. For example, for the past two weeks, I haven't wanted to work out, so I haven't been. When it comes to blogging, I genuinely love it, and my life kind of revolves around it, so it's not something I have to intentionally set aside time for, it (usually!) just happens naturally. The last two days I couldn't find the time/energy to write blog posts, so I didn't. Call me lazy, but I just like to live my life very go-with-the-flow, because that is what works best for me.
When it comes to responsibilities and deadlines, I know what I need to get done and I am good about prioritization when I have a lot on my plate. For things that aren't demanding or required, I do what I want to do... simple as that. I would never force myself to work out if I wasn't up for it (lol, I don't even think I could!) or write a blog post just for the sake of getting something up. Hopefully, that makes sense!
So, without further adieu, I am going to jump right into what a typical [or should I say: ideal] day looks like for me:
6:30 AM: wake up
6:30-8 AM: I like to walk my dog + listen to the morning toast first thing in the morning because it's a great way to get outside and wake up. I don't do that every day, but I try to! I have coffee early every morning, finish up blog posts, check emails, add new posts to my IG story, etc. This is also the time where I try to get dressed every day because it makes me so much more productive!
8-4 PM: work! // I usually take a few breaks throughout the day... I make breakfast whenever I get hungry, go for a walk over lunch, etc. For lunch, I usually take anywhere from 30 mins to an hour, but some days I will work over lunch if I want to go for a long walk as my break and then eat while working... It really depends on the day, when my meetings are, and things like that, but I am focused on working from (roughly) 8 to 4.
4-5:30: workout + shower // After work is when I will work out if I feel like it. I'm kind of on strike from working out right now literally for no reason, but usually after sitting at my desk all day I feel pretty motivated to go for a run or do anything that involves moving my body. I think I am pretty good about balancing working out with WFH because it's something I truly enjoy... working out makes me feel good, so I do it! If I don't want to, I won't... I am very going with the flow on this, as I've mentioned like five times now. You get it! I will say, however, that almost every single day I get out for at least one walk, so even on days when I don't want to do a legit "workout" I have gotten some steps in.
6-8: dinner + chill // After work is my time to chill and do whatever. This means having dinner, and then working on blog stuff, maybe even hanging out with friends (we've been into trying new breweries or watching bachelorette on Tuesdays!), or anything of the sort. If I have a blog post I am trying to wrap up, I'll do that at this time, otherwise, I usually have something social going on which is a nice change of pace.
8-9:30 PM: bed // I get in bed every night between 8 and 9 and actually go to bed between 9 and 9:30. I usually read or facetime my boyfriend or something for an hour and that's it! I love going to bed early and waking up early, and I prioritize getting around nine hours of sleep. I function best when I stick to this schedule and it just makes me feel so on top of things when I do.

That's it! Hopefully, that helped answer any of your questions about how I balance things, or how I manage my days with WFH. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to leave a comment or send me a DM! I would love to hear if you have any WFH tips or schedule tricks that work for you.
